Have you ever just walked into a shop and stopped in awe because eclectic beauty was dripping from everywhere you looked? That was my reaction walking into the Rubanesque Pop-Up Shop in July in Lacoste. Lacoste, a small artsy village in the Luberon region of Southeastern France, is home to Ruth Ribeaucourt, creative mastermind behind her “artisan antique French silk Jacquard ribbon jewelry.” Ruth started making jewelry when she moved to France from Ireland. Her family, the Faure family of St. Etienne, had an acclaimed silk factory, Les Freres Faure (now Julien Faure) in the 1800s and 1900s, which became the inspiration for her jewelry after she got a plethora of 120-year-old (and older!) antique silk ribbons from her husband’s family as an engagement gift. Full of antique and vintage motifs, Ruth uses these ornate fabric echantillons, passementerie trims, and ribbons in her jewelry to create one-of-a-kind, glamorous standout pieces. Decorated in rich gold thread and stitching, Swarovski crystals and luxurious vintage and antique beads, her eye-catching jewelry has been featured in Design Sponge, Cosmopolitan, and her silk fabrics and ribbons sought after by Vogue editors and designers.

Ruth welcomed us wholeheartedly into her shop and elaborated on the history behind her miniature masterpieces. Her pop-up shop, while temporary, was an inviting space filled with color, sparkle, beautiful antique photo displays, and her hospitable nature. Please visit her Etsy shop to buy your lovely and unique piece of jewelry or look for her sparkles in Anthropologie later this year! Thank you so much for allowing me to photograph and feature your unbelievable creativity, Ruth! It was truly a pleasure meeting you!

Meredith + Brett got married yesterday! I was beyond blessed and honored to take her bridal portraits back in May and be a part of her special day since Jerry + I weren’t going to be able to make it to her wedding at the Cotton Room in Durham. The pictures I’ve seen so far have been beautiful, Meredith! Her bridal session was just a taste of the beautiful Christian ceremony + reception awaiting her and her new husband. We met out at Meredith College in Raleigh, Meredith’s alma mater (a lot of Meredith going on!), just in time to soak up the golden light radiating through the trees. Meredith is a natural, Southern beauty and her groom is one lucky man! We shot all around campus in the amphitheater, the magnolia trees, the chapel, and the gardens surrounding the chapel to give Meredith ethereal and gorgeous bridal portraits. Her dress is decadent–luscious silk with a silver + ivory double lace overlay, rhinestone buttons down her entire back and ornate jewels that cinch her waist and drape across the sweetheart neckline. Her shoes were a fun pop of robin’s egg blue and her coral + pink bouquet epitomize Meredith’s outgoing and bubbly personality (check out the goofy photos at the end of the post)!

Meredith, you made a beautiful bride and Jerry + I wish you and Brett all the happiness and love in the world as you embark on this new chapter of life! Have a great honeymoon!

Happy 1st Birthday, Bennie! I was contacted by his lovely grandmother, Pam, an Air Force friend of Mom’s from England, to take her grandson’s one-year old portraits. Her son and his wife, Andrew and Natalie, just moved back to Chapel Hill for graduate school and have an adorable and goofy little one, Bennie. We met out at Duke Park the other week for our portrait and play session. Let me just tell you, this kid can play hard. Laughing in the swings, climbing the playground, and sliding down the big slide were his absolute favorites besides cuddling with his mom and playing the drums on his dad’s head. Towards the end of the session, Bennie took off walking more than he ever had before! Although, by this point, I’m sure Bennie is flying around faster than Dash from The Incredible’s!  Natalie + Andrew, I was so honored to photograph your young family + sweet Bennie! Best of luck in Chapel Hill!
